What is Korean Air mileage?
It is a membership service that allows customers who travel overseas with Korean Air to accumulate Korean Air mileage based on the distance used and to enjoy a variety of services with the accumulated mileage. You can only accumulate mileage if you become a member of Korean Air. This Korean Air membership service is called “Skypass.” It is said that ways to get hired with Korean Air mileage include not only reserving Korean Air tickets, but also using partner hotels, purchasing admission tickets, and purchasing products at Cal Store.

Korean Air mileage usage system reformed
Korean Air will apply a revised mileage system starting in April. Korean Air announced a major overhaul of its mileage system ‘Skypass’ in December 2019. It is said that they initially planned to introduce a revised mileage system starting from April 2021, but as demand for overseas travel plummeted due to the coronavirus, the implementation of the system was postponed to April of this year. Korean Air said, “We have reorganized the mileage system in line with global standards and eased the agenda for signing up new multi-member members,” and added, “Due to the coronavirus, we have extended the expiration date for mileage that expired at the end of 2020 and 202365 so that it can be used until the end of 2022.” “He said. The main contents of the reorganization are as follows.

Cash and mileage combined payment, change in mileage accrual rate for first class and business class, change in mileage deduction standards for bonus tickets and seat promotions, introduction of a new multiple-win system, etc. When purchasing a regular airline ticket, you can reimburse up to 500 miles and up to 20% of the purchase fare excluding taxes and fuel surcharges with mileage.

Compared to before, the mileage accrual rate for first class and business class has increased, while the accrual rate for economy class has remained the same or decreased. When purchasing bonus tickets or seat promotions, the mileage deduction standard applied by region, such as Korea, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, North America, and South America, will be changed to be based on flight distance.

Previously, mileage was deducted on a approximate basis for routes to LA and New York, but now mileage is deducted more generously for routes to New York, which have longer flight distances.

Summary of the reform of the Woomyeobeonwon system
The existing Morning Calm, Morning Calm Premium, and Million Miler levels will be changed to Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Previously, Morning Calm members were required to have 50,000 miles on Korean Air, 40 international flights, more than 30,000 miles on Korean Air, and 50,000 miles on partner airlines.

To become a Silver member following the reorganization, you only need to accumulate 10,000 qualifying miles (distance per flight × accrual rate by booking class) or 20 qualifying points (1 point for domestic flights, 2 points for international flights). Qualifying miles and frequency increase if you board a partner airline other than Korean Air. It is said that qualifications will be recalculated on an annual basis, and the new multiple number system will be applied from next year based on this year’s boarding achievements.
