In 2017, the crop disaster insurance subscription rate was 30.1% and the livestock subscription rate reached 92.9%, meaning that almost all livestock were covered. In 2017, 28,000 crop disaster insurance subscribers who suffered damage from hail and drought received a total of 280 billion won in insurance money. In addition, over 7,300 livestock disaster insurance subscribers who suffered losses due to fire, disease, heat waves, etc., received insurance payments of approximately 120 billion won.
In order to ensure fairness and objectivity in agricultural disaster insurance damage assessment, the government needs to select and secure professional personnel with certain qualifications so that specialized personnel can take charge of damage assessment work according to a standardized process. Accordingly, the Agricultural and Fishery Accident Insurance Act is required. Following the revision, a loss assessor system was implemented.
