Housing benefit is a welfare system that supports rent or maintenance and repair costs so that households receiving basic livelihood security can live a stable residential life.
You can apply if your recognized income is 47% or less of the standard median income, and the standard for support obligations does not apply separately.
Please note that if you are selected as a recipient, rented households can receive support for rent costs, and self-owned households will have their old houses repaired.
Regardless of who is obligated to support housing benefits, applicants are eligible if the household’s recognized income is 47% or less of the standard median income.
Here, ‘recognized income’ refers to the value of the applicant’s earned income, business income, real estate, etc. converted into income.
Median income refers to the income level of the household in the middle when all households are ranked in order of income, and the standard is announced by the government every year.
Housing benefit is a welfare service that can be applied for if the household income is below 47% of the standard median income.
The standard for housing benefits for a four-person household in 2023 is 2,538,453 won, and if the recognized income is lower than this, you meet the conditions for housing benefits.
Housing benefit rental support is paid based on the region and number of family members, with a standard rent set as the upper limit.
However, please note that if the actual rent exceeds the standard rent, the remaining difference will not be paid.
For self-owned households, we provide support for repairs such as wallpapering, heating, and roofing, depending on the age of the house.
However, it is not paid in cash and is divided into three categories: light repair, intermediate repair, and major repair, and repair costs and repair cycles are applied differently accordingly.
For housing benefits, the applicant or his/her agent can apply by visiting the town, township, or dong community center or through the Welfare Service website.
Please refer to the online submission documents for the documents required when applying. If you would like to check whether you are eligible for housing benefits before applying, please use the income recognition mock calculation service.
Documents to be submitted include a copy of bankbook, lease agreement, etc. Please check the table below for details. Please note that documents may vary depending on the applicant, so it is best to receive consultation first before preparing.
If you are already receiving housing through support from other laws, etc., or if it is confirmed that you do not need housing benefits, you will be excluded from payment.
