Why you need the Climate Companion Card

As the climate crisis becomes increasingly serious, many developed countries (Germany, France, etc.) are introducing and operating unlimited integrated transportation cards to revitalize public transportation, achieving socioeconomic effects such as improving traffic congestion and increasing the number of new users of public transportation.

Like advanced countries, we plan to respond to the climate crisis through the Climate Companion Card and lay the foundation for guaranteeing citizens’ mobility rights, and we plan to ease the economic burden on the common people due to various rates and rising energy costs in this era of high inflation.

65,000 won per month, unlimited use to ease the burden of transportation costs
The Gifu Companion Card costs 65,000 won per month and provides unlimited use of all public transportation methods within the Seoul area, including subways, city/village buses, and public bicycle Ttareungi.
It can be used not only as a physical card but also as a smartphone app. The physical card can be used by initially purchasing the card for 3,000 won and then recharging 65,000 won every month.
Use all subway lines 1 to 9, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Bundang Line, Gyeongchun Line, Uisinseol Line, and Sillim Line that get on and off within Seoul (excluding the Shinbundang Line, which has a different basic fare).
You can use the Gifu Companion Card if you board in Seoul and get off in other areas such as Gyeonggi or Incheon, but if you board in areas other than Seoul, you cannot use the Gifu Companion Card.
All city buses and village buses in Seoul can be used (buses from other regions such as Gyeonggi and Incheon or metropolitan buses with different basic fares cannot be used even within the Seoul area)
The standard for distinguishing buses from Seoul and other regions is centered on the area where the route license is obtained, and you can check the corresponding licensed area by searching each bus route number.
Public bicycle Ttareungi offers unlimited 1-hour use.
In the future, we plan to expand operation to newly added next-generation eco-friendly transportation methods such as river buses.

Focus on ‘activating public transportation’ in response to climate crisis
When the Climate Companion Card is introduced, the use of passenger cars will decrease by about 13,000 annually and greenhouse gases will decrease by 32,000 tons per year due to the activation of public transportation (4.8 million pine trees are expected to absorb greenhouse gases).

Responding to the climate crisis by revitalizing public transportation

As international oil prices continue to rise and signs of climate crisis such as heat waves, heavy rain, and drought appear around the world, many countries around the world, including Germany and France, are also focusing on increasing the use of public transportation, such as introducing unlimited transportation cards.
In the case of Germany, a 9-euro ticket, which allows unlimited use of public transportation for about 12,000 won, was introduced as an experiment between June and August last year, and received an explosive response. As a result of selling about 50 million 9-euro tickets, the use of public transportation increased by 25%. , Achieving socioeconomic effects such as reducing carbon dioxide by 1.8 million tons, reducing the inflation rate by 0.7%, improving traffic congestion, and increasing new users of public transportation.
Based on these achievements, Germany introduced the ‘Deutscheland Ticket (D-Ticket)’ for 49 euros per month starting in May of this year, selling 11 million tickets in just 3 months.
Many countries are actively introducing public transportation policies to respond to high prices and the climate crisis, including Paris, France, which sells monthly passes for 72.9 euros, and Austria, which sells annual ‘climate tickets’ for 1,095 euros.

Expected to eliminate blind spots by linking public transportation with Ttareungi
Once the ‘Climate Companion Card’, which allows unlimited use of public transportation and public bicycles, is stably established, it is expected to drive the expansion of the use of eco-friendly transportation in all civic activities, including leisure and cultural activities, as well as commuting to and from work and school.
By linking public transportation and public bicycles, the Climate Companion Card is expected to help eliminate public transportation blind spots by smoothly connecting subway stations and bus stops in areas with limited public transportation infrastructure.
If it is connected to next-generation eco-friendly transportation methods such as the Han River River Bus, which is scheduled to be introduced next year, it is expected to meet various transportation demands and increase the number of car users switching to public transportation.
